Lyrical

The origins of lyrical dance are unclear.  This form of dance is most often seen in contemporary music shows, like Celine Dion, Cirque du Soleil and the television show “So You Think You Can Dance”.  The goal of the lyrical dancer is to convey the emotion of a song’s lyrics.  Intense emotional expression of the face and body are necessary to tell a story that evolves along the lines of the song to which lyrical dance is performed.  Characteristics of this style are flowing dance moves that connect throughout the dance.  The upper body movements are quite different from ballet styles, with body angles unfamiliar to either jazz or ballet.

Pre-requisite:  One full year of ballet must have been completed prior to entering a lyrical class at Danza Dance Academy.
